My Stay in GLS Berlin

When I arrived at the campus I was nervous that the camp would be very strict and not allow any language other than German to be spoken. I was wrong and this was both good and bad.

In the college we had 2 excursions every day, one in the evening and one at night, they were always fun and packed with interesting information. On this trip we visited the Brandenburg gate.

We also visited the Berliner Lust Garden and saw the cathedral, it was very picturesque. It was lots of fun going with friends and taking in the history.

We visited the TV Tower also, it looked very striking overlooking the city but I was disappointed that we weren't able to visit the top of it. We could only look at the outside from the ground

We visited the Modern art gallery and it was probably my favourite excursion of the trip, it was a large collection of interesting pieces. I only wish there was more information written about the pieces as some of their messages were unclear.

In this image I took a picture of the outside view of the GLS campus accommodation. The rooms were very nice studio apartments that fit 5 beds in each. They were lovely with a microwave and fridge. However the ceiling on the second floor left a bit to be desired if you are over 5'3" as I kept hitting my head off of the low roof.

We often gathered in the apartment to have a game or two of chess. Some nights we had competitions that went until the wee hours of the morning and these are some of my fondest memories of the trip.

Lidl was a 2 minute walk away which was a nice cheaper alternative to the expensive restaurants that were available on the street directly opposite the college.

This was one of the student accommodation buildings on campus, they were very modern and clean which was a nice bonus.

The campus included free WiFi which I felt was a very nice touch that allowed us to connect more easily with eachother as students with varying degrees of data.

This was the common ground where we would all gather before leaving on a trip or excursion.

Overall the whole course was excellent. My only gripe with the camp was that I wish speaking in German was more enforced, the classes were great that there was no English allowed but I feel I could have benefited from more German outside the classroom as it can be difficult being the only one trying to speak.

It was a pleasure staying in GLS and lots of new friends were made.
